Exclamation Is your browser upto date?

Many thanks to Jay for the Firefox updates.

It would appear the some people are still using very out of date browsers and putting their computers are more risk than they need to.

    The Stats: http://www.myfarmcommunity.com/psistats.php?do=os

A good source of the latest browsers: http://www.filehippo.com/software/browsers/

Older Versions of Browsers than those listed below may no longer supported and may put you computer at higher risk - The latest versions may be pushed on users in the future for your safety.

    Q: Still using Firefox 2.0 or 3.0?
    A: Upgrade to Firefox 3.5

Q: Still using Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0?
A: Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8.0

    Q: Still using Opera 8 or 9?
    A: Upgrade to Opera 10

    Q: Still using Netscape?
A: Change to a new browser as this is no longer supported by AOL

Q: Using Safari or Chrome ?
A: Have a quick look to make sure you have the latest version.

Please note that some Add-Ons will not work with newer versions of browsers.

I have hopefully provided accurate information here and apologise for any mistakes.
I will update this advise as often as possible/necessary.

For Firefox users that isn't an issue. There is an add-on called Nightly Tester Tools designed to help those who run the Nightly Builds of the browser rather than the Full Release Version to run their other add-ons. It will allow you to override the version checking and allow you to make any add-on for earlier version compatible.

Just to add a bit to that, it also should be known that the tool mentioned is used by folks beta testing the foxy browser.

For the average user, I would not recommend this course. Some add-ons that are found to be incompatible may be that way due to security holes being closed in later versions of FireFox. Defeating the purpose of the add on version check may leave the browser vulnerable.
As I have stated in another thread, you might just wait a week or two. It is possible that the author of an add on will update its' version to be compliant with the new browser version.

Just trying to give another viewpoint. In no way is this to be taken as a slam against Wakey.
What he has said is also true. You will have to decide yourself based on what type of cyber surfer you are.

Equally and perhaps even more disturbing is the revelation that folks are still running Windows NT, 98 and 2000. Microsoft no longer patches NT or 98 and haven't for sometime, if that's your computer you have no hope of staying secure on line. Windows 2000 is in extended support only, and I'd personally not want to be running that on line either.
